Welcome to Bar Blitz
Where chess meets community, and every player has a story to tell
What We Do
We organize casual chess tournaments in local bars and at festivals, creating a welcoming environment where chess enthusiasts of all skill levels can come together, play, and have fun.
Our tournaments are designed to be enjoyable, whether you're a grandmaster or someone who just learned how the pieces move, you're welcome to join us. Grab a beer, make some friends, and enjoy a game of chess in a relaxed atmosphere.
How It Works
- Sign up for a tournament online
- Show up at the venue on tournament day
- Meet fellow chess players and enjoy the atmosphere
- Play your matches and track your progress
- Celebrate victories and learn from defeats
Tournament Rules & Information
Tokens & Registration
At Bar Blitz, we use a simple token system:
- 1 token = €5
- Blitz tournament = 1 token
- Rapid tournament = 2 tokens
How it works
- You buy tokens via the link on the navigation bar.
- Use tokens to register for a tournament.
- Joining the waitlist also requires tokens in your profile, tokens are only used if you're moved from the waitlist into the tournament.
Cancelling?
- You can cancel your registration up to 6 hours before the tournament starts.
- Your token(s) will automatically be refunded to your account.
- Note: Tokens are non-refundable for cash.
During the Tournament
- Arrive at least 15 minutes early so we can check you in.
- Check in with the host upon arrival.
- No-shows lose their spot and do not get their token back, we'll give the spot to someone from the waitlist.
While playing
- Check the website or the venue screen for pairings and live standings.
- The vibe is social, there's music and chatting, but please respect players still focusing on their games.
- When a new round starts: start your game promptly.
After your games
Stick around for the prize ceremony and the good vibes, it's part of the Bar Blitz experience.
Rules & Fair Play
We play real chess, the official rules apply:
- Touch-move
- Move-release
- Flag fall = game lost
- Use one hand only
But also…
It's blitz, it's social, and some players are still learning. So:
- Be kind and fair, help each other out
- Solve disputes between yourselves if you can
- If needed, pause the clock and ask the host to step in
- The host's ruling is final, no further discussion or negotiation is possible once a decision has been made.
Bar Blitz is about having fun, learning something new, and playing strong games, in that order.
What We Believe In
Inclusivity
Everyone is welcome, regardless of skill level, age, or background. We celebrate diversity and create a supportive environment for all players.
Fun First
While we love competitive chess, our primary goal is to have fun and build community. Winning is great, but enjoying the game and the company is even better.
Learning
Every game is an opportunity to learn and improve. We encourage players to share knowledge, discuss strategies, and grow together as a community.
